1. My big idea for the final project is emotions. I was thinking the emotions I felt when deciding to transfer to Ohio University or stay at Ohio State. The feelings of confusion and frustration vs. happiness and relief. I want to incorporate my own photos of me and my friends at Ohio State and at Ohio University. I want it to be a diptych format. One of the images at Ohio State with me confused and the other image of me happy with my decision to transfer to Ohio University.
2. My big idea is emotions and for my final I wanted it to be more of my own photography. So my friends are a big part that influenced me, and Ohio State's and Ohio University's campuses.
3. I plan to use the opacity tool a lot to try and fade different pictures in the background. I also plan on using the technique of making selections and copying the layer and using a layer mask.

Midterm Diptych

The overall big idea is emotions. Different themes I explored were dealing with death, sorrow and grief. On the flip side of that there is life, happiness and rejoice. For my diptych project, the one piece of artwork reflects the sorrow and sadness I felt after my uncle passed away. The angel above the bed symbolizes the person missing is in a better place and is watching over me. The other piece of artwork reflects my uncle going to heaven and no longer suffering. The bright colors and the angels wings symbolizes happiness and freedom from pain. This big idea is important to me because my uncle was a big part of my life. It’s only been a year since he has passed, but I know deep down he is in a better place.

Elisha's Art

Karl Sim's ArtThe first artist I chose that identifies with a Big Idea that is important to me is Elisha Ben-YitZhak. This artist appeals to me because his artwork reflects personal experiences. His big idea reflects life in general and all those experiences. Elisha inspires me to create artwork that reflect my own experiences. Art should be a way of expressing myself, but also at the same time trying to get people to understand the artwork.
The second artist who I chose whose imagery is really interesting to me is Karl Sims. This artist appeals to me because I like all the animation in his work. His big idea seems to deal a lot with evovling behaviors, human faces and natural like things. I like all the special effects he is using. The artist inspires me to want to use computer animations. For my final project I will try and create more abstract objects. Some stylistic components I would need to learn to make my work stronger is some different computer graphics.

Diptych Artist Statement Version #1
My big idea is emotions. For my brainstorming assignment I found and took pictures ranging from happy to sad to confusing to angry. I then broke down my brainstorming assignment to more meaningful emotions. I started to explore a theme dealing with people’s emotions about war and the nation as a whole. One side of my modulating meaning is the heartache and the pain and the death associated with a solider in the war. The other side of my modulating meaning was the side where people forget about the tragedies and cover it up with a smiling face and a nice vacation on the beach.
